Inflation
An increase in prices, inflation, has many historians believing that the Fall of Rome was caused by inflation. When the Romans refrained from claiming land their supply of gold started running out causing the coins, made of gold, to become less valuable. Because of the lack of gold, merchants started raising the prices in their stores. After that, many Romans stopped using coins and started trading goods, and soon after that they started trading clothing instead of coins. Inflation was one of the many reasons why Rome fell 476 BC.
