Decline in Morals and Values

  By Jillian Devine
Many historians believe that one reason Rome fell was because they forgot their morals and the value of human or animal life. The emperors at this time loved to waste their money on parties where they would eat and drink until they puked. During this time the emperors could have been spending their money on more important things, such as to rebuild fallen roads or houses for the poor, but instead they threw parties. When the civilians saw hoe their "kings" were spending the money, they became upset and angry, in order to relieve that anger they rioted, making the streets of big cities unsafe. The Romans also lost sight of values such as human life by holding Gladiator Games at the Coliseum for entertainment. The gladiator games were held at the Coliseum, in the center of Rome, and were attended by the poor, the rich, and the emperors. Gladiators were trained to fight prisoners and had to fight to the death with other gladiators or even animals to live. The Romans would watch as a human being bled out on the ground right in front of them and cheer and curse. The Romans need for bloodshed for their own entertainment is possibly a reason the empire fell.

  4. Many parallels with today’s hedonistic cultures that prey on themselves and innocents from other worlds—fear and immorality, bribes, murders, and advancement of illiterates...
